Freshman Business Initiative

 

After my Freshman Business Initiative class I took with Dr. Musoma, I was in awe at how much I had learned from him by the end of just one semester.  Dr. Musoma often had speakers teach on lecture days and at first, this really frustrated me.  I felt like I had come to his class to learn from him, but it wasn't until the end that I really came to appreciate these outside speakers.

 

Towards the end, Dr. Musoma began to talk to us more and more frequently.  He began to reference all the lectures that had taken place in which he never even spoke.  What we all came to understand was what he had told us the very first week of school: "Your network is your networth."

 

Every business man and woman that spoke to our classes was someone Dr. Musoma had met out in the business world and made a connection with- not just a LinkedIn connection, but a real person to person, father to son, brother to sister, friend to friend.  Everyone that came to talk to us felt a pleasure to be around Dr. Musoma and Mays Business School. It was a true blessing.

 

The greatest lesson I learned from my Freshman Business Initiative class was that the way you communicate and work with others really stands out.  If you make people feel the importance that they all deserve, they will respond so positively and strive to go out of their way to help you.
